From Addiction to Freedom 🕊
Living with addiction is a crazy-making downward spiral
Addiction is not reserved for the homeless person on the street. Everyone deals with it at some point in their life, whether they want to admit it or not.
What defines whether you are addicted to something, is:
*how much you rely on the addictive pattern, person or substance in order to function;
*ànd how much you think of the addictive pattern/ person/ substance on a daily basis.
Smoking, eating (or not eating), drama-filled relationships, workaholism, money, clinging to status, fishing for constant validation and attention, and the classic ones: sex, meds, drugs and alcohol, etc., can all be abused to mask layers and layers of unresolved emotional issues.
Addiction allows you to stay on the surface, to not go too deep into yourself.
Because if your life is consumed by your addiction, it is impossible to sink into your subconscious and see and feel what is hiding there.
For some periods of time, admittedly, that might be a good thing.
If you are in an unsafe period and all you need to do is survive, then (riksy opinion) - thank god you have that behaviour, person or substance to distract you.
The problem arises when you have arrived on safer grounds, and you still keep self-medicating.
These habits are extremely hard to kick, because on a deeper level you know that if you let go of them, you will have to deal with everything underneath. And that process isn’t going to be a pleasant, nor a pretty one.
On the other hand, addiction takes an increasing toll on you. You slowly start disengaging from normal life, living more and more in the silo of your own mind. Enjoyment, dignity, self-respect, let alone relaxation, true focus, connection to yourself and to your dreams and talents, all start fading away till they’re totally lost. Your addiction reigns supreme.
And when you admit to yourself that this is happening, that you have lost yourself and become depended on, and powerless against, a certain behaviour, person or substance, you have cultivated enough self-honesty to be ready for healing.
Two types of addiction, both soul-killing
There are two different types of addiction:
1. The ones that make you more productive.
If you’re a high performer, you might find yourself addicted to stimulants, that numb your feelings, calm your thoughts and make your mind (temporarily) sharper. Stimulants are, among others, sugar, heaps of caffeine, amphetamines, cocaine, ritalin/ adderall, compulsive sex, etc.. Everybody stimulates themselves with something, even if it’s a matcha tea, once a while. But how often do you NEED it to get things done or function in general? And if you stop, what will your life and output be like? These are questions to consider.
The thinking trap you can fall into when dealing with this type of addiction, is thinking that when you have achieved XYZ, you won’t need the habit anymore and you’ll let go of it. But that is not the case, unless achieving XYZ allows you to totally focus on healing. This is unlikely however, because you will have achieved a certain level on ‘doping’, not on your natural abilities. So when the next, more complex and difficult level shows up, that naturally demands more of you, you will not only find yourself devoid of the internal resources to navigate it but you will also be dragging the burden of the addiction with you. You’ve built your success on shaky foundations, and it’s only a question of time till it collapses.
2. The ones that help you check-out entirely.
The addictions that help you check out, are the ‘classic’ addictions well-known in our society. Think of sedatives, like alcohol and heroin, but also gaming, porn, and eating a lot of unhealthy food.
While addictions that make you more productive may help you (initially) to accumulate achievements, money, status, a slim physique, addictions that help you check out do the opposite. That’s why they are more frowned upon. The benefit of this, however, is that you might reach the point of admitting you’re addicted sooner.
Usually people have multiple addictions, the one enabling the other. A workaholic (for example) might develop a nicotine, cocaine, ritalin, amphetamine etc. addiction to be able to keep up with the primary compulsion of NEEDING to keep busy and work. And then at night they might use meds or smoke weed to be able to fall asleep after overstimulating themselves during the day.
Another scenario is somebody addicted to validation, control and/or perfection who might develop an eating disorder (which is a food addiction, as you constantly think about eating or not eating). And then to support the eating disorder they might get addicted to drugs or meds that make them lose their appetite..
Addiction is a disease with a thousand heads..
Start with cutting out the one that creates the most problems for you.
The one thing that makes addiction hard to heal, is the complexity of it.
There are so many layers to addiction and so many reasons why someone engages in it, all of which must be healed, for the addiction to leave.
On the one hand you have all the emotions that the addiction suppresses and that the person doesn’t wish to confront, so they stick to the addiction.
On the other hand, you have to also tackle addiction as a simple habit that needs to change.
Then it is important to also get (the prospect of) a new, interesting life. Hope is lost for a better future, so that’s a way to re-install it. Addiction can get to the point that one loses all other interests. Then the appearance and health levels of the person should be restored, to welcome in dignity, vitality and self-worth.
Social factors can also exacerbate or cause addiction. For example, isolation or having the wrong friends. These also need to change.
Genes (‘inheriting’ the addiction from family members), past lives and karma can play a role as well.
Then the triggers of a person that cause the addiction should be dealt with. This will also relax the nervous system more, which will diminish the need for engaging in addictive behaviour, thereby creating a positive feedback loop.
And in case of emergency situations of life, which might cause unpredictable painful moments (though these automatically reduce if addiction goes away, cause you stop causing so many problems for yourself), good coping mechanisms should be developed for the times that life gets tough.
So where to even start with all this?
From my own experience I have found that shamanic energy healing (which we do a lot of in this trajectory) is the quickest route to healing addiction. With this kind of energy healing everything - think all the patterns, emotions, memories, ‘genetic imprints’ causing the addiction, unknown and known, - are ‘pulled out’ of the person, leaving them clearer and cleaner after each session.
Because a lot might come up at once however when doing this, the person must be sure that they are in a position to handle this. As the pulled out energies ‘leave’ the person, the addiction might even temporarily amplify as it’s the person’s coping mechanism to dealing with tough moments. So it is very important to discuss your current condition during the Discovery Call.
A different path towards recovery
Bring safety and stability into your life with the
From Addiction to Freedom🕊 trajectory
The complexity of addiction is the (very) hard part of it, but also the beauty of it.
Imagine the transformation someone must go through to upgrade themselves from addict to getting back in touch with their soul again. The strength of character one must have to uproot all the parts in them that are insecure, wounded, and neglected. That takes a lot! Everyone has those parts, but they don’t have a reason to look at them. With addiction you are invited to go there. And if you don’t accept the invite, don’t worry, you’ll be forced.
This deeply transformative element makes going from Addiction to Freedom a profoundly spiritual and touching journey - not pretty, but very beautiful.
This is what the From Addiction to Freedom trajectory aims at: freeing you from the compulsion, lack of control and loss of self that addiction brings with it and allowing the birth of a new, fresh, independed self.
We will do this by getting to know, acknowledge, befriend and, in this way, dissolve the parts, thoughts, emotions and energies that have nestled into your system and cause the addiction.
Because you will become more ‘whole’ and ‘full’, your self-control, confidence and self-worth will return. You will start feeling 🍊 fresh, peaceful & dignified 💫 again!
And when that is done, you too can:
✅ Wake up HEALTHY and fresh;
✅ Get in touch with your interests, talents and dreams again;
✅ Sincerely lose all desire to engage in addictive activities;
✅ Have meaningful relationships again instead of isolating;
✅ Regain your independence and sense of self-control;
✅ Start building your life instead of destroying it;
✅ Glow-up all areas of your life, including yourself.

What to expect
What curing addiction looks like:
You start thinking about other things again, instead of your thoughts being dominated by your habit;
You don’t have to plan your life around your habit anymore;
Looking in the mirror and being happy with what you see (inside and out);
Ability to get through the day without relying on your habit for support, pleasure, consolation or motivation;
Ability to face life’s challenges without relying on your habit for support, pleasure, consolation or motivation;
Feeling more in control, happy, stable, free and confident;
Feeling more empowered, ‘lighter’, ‘younger’ and more mature at the same time;
Experiencing an increase in vitality, since you are not ‘wasting your energy’ on your bad habit;
(Re-) discovering your talents, interests, passions and ambitions.
What curing addiction is not:
Never using a crutch again.
Unless you have reached a very high level of human development, there will be times when life gets tough, and you won’t have enough internal resources or ‘connection to the universe’ to not grab for something external to soothe you. Do not aim for it however. Just know that it is possible that there will be times you will need something external to get you through, especially in the beginning of your recovery. But let that be a couple of cookies for example, and not drugs, a bottle of wine or the whole candy department.
Quitting all crutches at once.
Do not make this already very challenging process more challenging by going cold turkey on all your crutches (for example ànd meds, ànd smoking, ànd sugar etc.).* Especially when healing your ‘first’ addiction, it is very normal - even necessary I would argue - that as you stop using that one habit entirely (unless of course it’s food or work which you can’t stop or even take a break from), you will need other less harmful habits to take over for a bit. Ideally you replace the bad habit with a healthy one, but that might be a bridge too far.
*However if the addiction involves drugs, it should be quit together with other drugs and alcohol.
How long it will take to cure addiction:
Getting out of the prison of addiction is a rollercoaster process of quitting successfully and then falling off the wagon again.
Till one day you stop falling off. That is the moment you have shifted your life and your identity enough, and you possess enough internal resources to not engage with the habit anymore.
If this succeeding and falling off process is not supported by healing, it might continue till forever. That is the sad reality of addiction. If supported by healing, it depends on how much there is to heal.
Generally, with energy healing, it is possible to let go of a strong addiction within a year.
The trajectory is 8 sessions over 7 months. After that, the sessions will need integration time. It can be that you’ll already be able to quit during the trajectory, but it is likely that around the 12th-16th month from start, you will be truly able to say it is over.
My strongest addiction, my eating disorder, that lasted 17 years and had taken over every aspect of my life, took, after starting energy work, a year and a month to leave my life, after going through all the steps that this trajectory offers in 7 months. My smoking addiction took half a year. My ritalin addiction took longer, 1.5 years to be precise. ❤️
Methods used
In order to facilitate your healing I will use my natural intuitive abilities and draw from my personal experience healing my depression. Apart from these, we will also use:
-
The need for ' checking out’, stimulating or numbing yourself, originates in having too many suppressed emotions. This leads to not feeling comfortable in your own body and to not being able to be in the here and now. This causes an unpleasant life experience.
The feelings one tries to run from vary per person. The one engages in addictive behaviour or in substance use in order to avoid fear, another to avoid grief, another despair, and someone else runs from guilt and deep shame.
The more feelings we have stuffed into us, the more unpleasant being in our body and 'in the here and now' feels like, leading us to engage our addiction.
To break this cycle, we will uproot emotions stored in the body and feel them out, so they can dissolve.
I will feel them with you so we will be going through the same experience. Because there will be two of us processing your stuff, an accelerated and powerful healing will take place.
If, for whatever reason, you are not capable of feeling a particular emotion at that moment, that emotion will flow through me. This way it will be released, just not by you at that moment.
This will make you feel (much) lighter, and restore your aliveness, vitality and feelings of contentment. -
Just like your emotions can make you want to numb your body and escape your life experience, thoughts can do as well (in the end, it's all energy).
Flashbacks to the past may distract you from living in the present. Or worse, they might cause you to relive the unprocessed fear, shame, guilt or sadness attached to them, leading you to self-medicate with your addiction.
The solution is examining your thoughts, detaching from them and emptying out the mind by ‘deleting’ what can be deleted.
We will achieve this through parts work and stream-of-consciousness writing.
This will create more space in between your thoughts, allowing you to feel better, be more present and take more action.
-
Energy healing is the practice of working with the subtle energy field of the client in order to clear out energetic imprints.
An energetic imprint can either be the energetic signature of a certain pattern or the energetic equivalent of the mental-emotional blockages (due to for example trauma, unconsciousness, or insecurities) or physical pains a client has.
These energetic imprints cause heaviness, low mood and/or distress, leading you to
To clear them out, I will either move the dissolve the energy blockage with concentration and hand movements, or I will attune myself to your energy system, and start processing the blockages you have there, by taking them over and letting them move through me, thereby releasing them from your system.An emotional release might then take place in you, in me or in the both of us, such as crying or experiencing a wave of irritation or anger.
By clearing out your energetic imprints, the energy in your field that was previously blocked will start flowing again, leading to an increase in vitality and mood, and less resistance in daily life.
I might conclude the energy healing with a (distance) reiki treatment, in order to charge up your system with a high frequency energy. You will leave the session feeling more relaxed, happy and clear-thinking and you will have a good night’s sleep.

Being too mental, in the sense that we live in our heads, causes us to engage in addictive behaviours, in order to escape our thoughts.
To get rid of this, we must also work with the body. Techniques that allow us to do this are for example (intuitive trigger point) massage, breathwork, stretching, systemic bodywork, tapping or just focusing on the sensations that arise within us.
When we work with the body, we awaken the stagnant energy in it with our awareness or touch. The energy is then freed up from suppression and, after being felt by us, can flow again in our system.
The more attention we place on the body, and more we liberate it from stagnant energy, the more pleasurable 'living in our bodies' is, leading us to stop 'living in the head' and start embodying more of ourselves.
Exercise or any other form of movement are amazing for your health, but aren’t bodywork. They are oftentimes a ‘mind over matter’ activity that do not help us dissolve old emotional residue (except for stretching). The more bodywork we do, the more we awaken our energy, allowing for a sharper, more energized and more active existence.
-
We all have ‘parts’ living within us that can best be described as sub-personalities.
These ‘sub-personalities’ are created over the course of our lives as a reaction to judgments, compliments, successes, and failures. Each part has its own agenda for you and its own strategy of how to get to its goal, which oftentimes contradicts the agenda and strategies of the other parts.
What each part also has, is a voice that produces thoughts and emotions in you.
When you suffer from addiction you have certain parts living within you, that are wounded and cause you to self-destruct when they come up, as they produce a lot of pain in their efforts to get your attention.
By taking out these parts one by one, talking with them, understanding their strategy and agenda, feeling out the emotions behind their thoughts and actions, you will process them and let go of the thoughts they produce in your head.
When they dissolve you will feel lighter, happier and a lot more mental-emotional space will be created in you.
